2012 - "The Art of Impossible Dreams!"

2012 - The 50th Anniversary Season

Our fiftieth anniversary season! It’s a remarkable achievement, and we plan to celebrate this milestone in a number of ways, not the least of which is by offering up an extraordinary season of classic plays that epitomize “the art of impossible dreams.” Those five words essentially sum up what we do — not only by presenting season after season of the most extraordinary tales on earth, but by making dreams come true for so many people. It is a great thing to be purveyors of impossible dreams — to have the privilege of conjuring up visions of all that might and can be possible in the realm of the human spirit, despite all odds and realities. That endeavor makes The Shakespeare Theatre a place where hopes are born, where cares are forgotten, and where inspiration ignites and abounds. At times in our long history, the continuance of our work and mission seemed itself an impossible dream, but theatre artists have been, from the beginning of human history, challengers on quixotic quests; fueled by the act of creation and the power of art; the fearless inventors and whisperers of impossible dreams; and we will continue to be so always. So, here’s to the start of the second half-century of a place where such dreams come true and where the rules of time, space, and reality hold no sway!
